Situation:

In 2025, Tenaz acquired the NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij) joint venture to take over their offshore drilling operations in the Dutch North Sea. To ensure business continuity, Tenaz needed to migrate all legacy data from the original database and rebuild sample management and data collection processes in a new platform. SciCord was selected to support this transformation.

Challenges:

1. Large Data Volumes: Migration involved decades of legacy data, including tens of thousands of samples and nearly 100,000 test results.
2. Data Harmonization: The historical data reflected changes in methodology and system-specific variations. This required harmonizing dissimilar legacy data formats and discrepancies into a consistent, manageable structure.
3. Flexibility: Given the variability in sampling locations and the dynamic nature of testing requirements, the new system needed to remain adaptable while supporting full administrative control by the Tenaz team.

Benefits:

Tenaz encountered and overcame several challenges in implementing SciCord LIMS across multiple sites:

• Improved Performance: The previous LIMS system had difficulty reliably handling the volume of the samples and results that had accumulated over the years. Previously, this was avoided by regularly moving older results into a separate database table to keep the active samples and results most accessible. SciCord maintains all samples and results in a single layer of the database supporting optimal queries and updates.
• Enhanced Reporting: Tenaz’s reports are generated directly as PDFs based on flexible filtering to meet regulatory requirements. All data is also directly accessible from PowerBI or Excel Power Query for less common queries that Tenaz can support internally.
• Adaptability: The data being recorded, expected limits, and scheduled samples can be adjusted at any time by Tenaz staff while maintaining the same underlying data structure. This prevents compatibility issues with reports and avoids the need for an IT specialist or vendor to get involved as Tenaz’s workflow evolves.
